Dexter Wong Tear-and-Glue Hollywood Icons Shirt

A graduate from Central St Martin’s School of Art in the 80s, Dexter Wong is an underground legend for his early works under his own namesake in the 90s and early 2000s rave scene. The fluidity between rave culture and the Avant Garde scene also saw Wong’s work being celebrated in the latter. I mean, this dude designed the pointy tips shirts that Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson wore in the Scream MV. The whole video is a vibe man and it suits Dexter Wong’s image very much. Furthermore, his namesake pieces are highly sought after while simultaneously being rare, fuelling its cult-like following. However, I digress. This all-over print is just loud and brash. The tear-it-and-glue aesthetic behind this collage of famous glamorous old Hollywood stars gives it a grungy and DIY feel, rendering it incredibly modern even decades later. The silhouette of this large shirt is long and narrow, following that paganistic tradition that Rick Owens blew up with his designs. Definitely a keeper and conversation starter when worn.
