Gucci F/W ’03 Tom Ford’s Conquerer Dress

Who would have thought this whole collection was related to the then-imminent threat from weapons of mass destruction  in Iraq, instigating the US invasion. Partnering with the UK, they started their shock and awe campaign with massive air strikes in Baghdad, initiating war. Tom Ford pounded the idea of creating beauty strong enough, like an amour, to face our troubled world backstage. He did a switch from the earlier season’s miniskirts back to knee-length, prim and proper, yet contrasting the decadent panelling with curvaceous piping to accentuate your body’s contours, and the neckline balconned into a jaw-clenching display of skin.
